Currently I am on track to graduate from OSU in June with a degree in Merchandising Management. This major gives me incredible flexibility in the job market. Last June I took the first step on my career path by getting an internship with a large retail company. The internship was an amazing experience, and it made me love the company even more. The internship did remind me of something that is difficult for me to deal with at times.
I am a size 10 in a size 4 world. My measurement are 40″ 30″ 46″. At 5’9″ that makes me an hourglass by pretty much anyone’s standards. Doing an internship in the fashion industry, and working in Downtown Portland reminded me that women in our society try to achieve the perfect body. Most women aim to be a small size, like 4 or 6. When I would go to meet-n-greats or functions for my internship I always felt like an Amazon. On a few occasions I felt uncomfortable because of my size. However, I realized how you carry yourself has the biggest affect on your appearance. No matter what you wear, confidence will make it look better. One day I realized something- most skinny women would kill to fill out a pair of jeans the way I do.

After that I decided to play up my curves, while still dressing appropriately for work. Below are some of the things I came up with to look better and feel better about being curvy.
1. Tailoring is your best friend, invest in it!

Standard sizes are a baseline for making garments, but they correctly fit very few women. Each body is unique. Tailoring a garment will show off your physical attributes, and it can make the garment more comfortable.
2. Tall high heels make your legs look longer (and sexier).
Neutral tone shoes work excellently to make legs look longer.

Shoes with a platform are also a good option because they have added height with more comfort.

3.Wear a dress or skirt at least once a week.

4. Certain silhouettes accentuate the good and conceal the not so good.

Seams at the waistline or under the bust can be a focal point, and hide a not so flat tummy if you worry about that.

Fitted pants can be very flatter. Be careful because tapered pants can look frumpy. This is a garment you will want to get tailored.
V-Necks are flattering, especially on curvy women because it draws attention to the waist. As long as the V isn’t too low it also draws attention to the chest in a good way.
5. Hoisery and properly fitting under garments can make all the difference.

Spanx has become incredibly popular, and for good reason. It sucks you in and allows clothes to drape better against the body. Their products range from tummy flattering panties to full leg hosiery with extra padding in the butt.
Textures are always fun.
I like colored tights with outfits that are subtle or neutral.
Wear what makes you feel best.
